From Telford to Trials: A Unicycling Journey
Benjamin Scott isn’t your average circus performer. His journey began at the young age of 14, a chance encounter at Tattoo Freeze in Telford. Dared by a stunt team to drop into their halfpipe, Benjamin took the plunge – and hasn’t looked back since. That pivotal moment ignited a passion for unicycling that has propelled him into a career of jaw-dropping skill and artistry.
Master of the Street
Benjamin’s primary riding discipline is “Street Riding,” a dynamic style akin to BMX but uniquely executed on a single wheel. He navigates tight spaces, conquers hills, and even glides across grassy fields, all while performing incredible spins, jumps, and body pirouettes. This versatility highlights the unicycle’s surprising capabilities, and Benjamin’s mastery of them.

More Than Just Tricks: Coaching and Connection
Beyond performing, Benjamin is passionate about sharing his love for unicycling. He specializes in close-up demonstrations and coaching, bringing the joy of the sport to a wide audience. From teaching a scout group the basics (ages 8-12) to entertaining crowds at events like the Tour De Yorkshire, Benjamin effortlessly connects with people of all ages.
A Collection of Custom Creations
Benjamin’s unicycles are not your everyday bikes. He currently owns three custom-built machines from around the world:
- A 27.5″ Mountain unicycle
- A 19″ Trials unicycle
- A 20″ Street unicycle
A Showcase of Skill and Daring
Benjamin’s repertoire of tricks is both awe-inspiring and entertaining. Some of his signature moves include:
- 540 bodyspins in the air
- Pirouettes on the ground
- Wheelwalking (pushing the tire with his feet instead of using the pedals)
The “Woodpecker” Trick
For a unique and slightly daring trick, Benjamin performs the “Woodpecker.” An audience member lies down like a starfish while Benjamin hops between their feet, dropping the unicycle seat – a feat that often raises eyebrows (and heart rates) from the male volunteers!
Benjamin’s Personal Feats
Benjamin’s commitment to the sport is evident in his impressive personal achievements:
- Longest ride: 20 miles (Nottingham to Swadlincote)
- Highest hop from standstill: 80cm
- Biggest drop: From a phone box (height unknown)
- Most dangerous stunt: Grinding down a set of 12 stairs on the pedal
Benjamin Scott is a captivating performer and passionate coach. His blend of technical skill and engaging personality makes him a unique addition to the UK circus scene. Be sure to catch this one-wheeled wonder in action!
